When Can I Visit?

The Hermiston Cemetery is open to the public from dawn until dusk.

Some sections of the Cemetery may be temporarily unavailable to the public during funerals, which are private events.

Very rarely, areas may need to be closed for maintenence; please contact us in advance if you have questions at secretary@hermistoncemetery.org

What can I bring? FAQs

  • Can I bring Real flowers?
    • Yes, but NOT in glass containers, and they cannot be in the mowing path, or they will be removed.
  • Can I bring Artificial flowers?
    • Only between November 1 - March 31.  During spring through fall, the artificial flowers pose a danger to maintenence when mowing.
  • Can I plant something in the Cemetery?
    • No, planting anything on Cemetery grounds is not allowed.
  • I left a something on a gravesite, and it is gone.  What happened to it?
    • The Hermiston Cemetery Sexton has authority to make decisions regarding the placement of flowers or other decorations on graves including, but not limited to:
      • Floral designs may be removed from the cemetery when the Sexton determines they have become unsightly, dangerous, diseased, or when they do not conform to the maintained standards.
      • Any monument, effigy, or other decoration deemed improper or offensive by the Sexton may be removed.
      • Containers, including glass containers for floral designs, are permitted TEMPORARILY following a funeral, until they are determined unsightly by the Sexton or cemetery maintenance crew.
      • Absolutely nothing is allowed on the grass during the mowing season, April 1-October 31, except as described below under Memorial Day. This includes, but is not limited to, solar lights, artificial flowers, containers, decorations, plants, rocks, and mulch.
        • Floral designs, containers (excluding glass), artificial flowers, and other decorations are permitted on the grass beginning the Friday before Memorial Day, and for two weeks following Memorial Day, until they are determined unsightly by the Sexton or cemetery maintenance crew.
    • Items that have been removed from graves will be stored on the East side of the Cemetery office building for a period of three weeks. Please only take what is yours. The Hermiston Cemetery is not responsible for lost, stolen or unclaimed items, and the cemetery is not responsible for storage or return of floral designs or their containers to the owners.
